Overview
knowledge to effectively support individuals in recovery. The training covers critical topics,
including ethics, recovery and wellness, mentoring and education, and advocacy. Participants
will gain hands-on experience, engage in discussions, and develop practical skills needed to
support individuals facing substance use disorders (SUD), mental health challenges, and other
recovery-related concerns. This 40-hour program is designed for individuals who are in recovery
and those working in peer support roles. It equips participants with the necessary tools to
maintain professional and personal boundaries, understand ethical considerations, and provide
informed advocacy and mentorship.
Expectations and Goals:
Participants must attend the entire training schedule. Absences may require re-enrollment in a
future session. Professional attire and demeanor are expected. Participants must actively
engage in discussions, contribute to a positive learning environment, and achieve a satisfactory
score on the final evaluation.
Presenter Overview:
Shannon Gray is an internationally certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Clinical Supervisor
with over 23 years of experience as a program director, executive manager, and counselor in
IOP, residential, and detox settings. She is the author of 12 Steps from Freedom of Self
Workbook, which has been implemented in recovery centers for over 13 years. As a recovery
program developer and facilitator of Therapeutic Community and Filling the Void staff training,
she specializes in mentorship, ethics, and long-term recovery strategies. With over 22 years in
recovery, Shannon brings extensive expertise in motivational speaking, communication, and
advocacy for individuals on their recovery journey.
